I am a Phenomenal Woman!
a Southern Voice for Bold Self-Expression

I am a Phenomenal Woman!
A Testimonial by Emily Burton

You trust your instincts proudly and don't follow the flow just because it's a pull of energy. You are true to your SELF. You are one special friend and woman who is doing much to help others as they walk the path. Your words keep me inspired even when I have moments of doubt. I want to be like you when I grow up, that is if I don't grow old before I grow up. Thanks for always being there and supporting me with your words of wisdom.                                                ~Emily Burton

When I met Emily Burton, she was already on her path of personal discovery. In fact, we met at one of my favorite workshops, The Possibility of Woman facilitated by Dr. Carol McCall. Dr. Carol requested I share an overview of Human Design, a client soul inventory and assessment tool I use in coaching. Having recently completed her own soul inventory, finding it valuable, she wanted me to share the tool at the workshop.

Emily BurtonShyly and reluctantly, Emily introduced herself. She requested a private session. That was the beginning of our ongoing coaching journey and friendship.

An amazing and beautiful woman with a love and talent for acting, Emily is a strong, powerful, and independent southern woman. Conditioned to listen to others rather than her own inner voice, and do what she was told to do, Emily married and joined the army to obtain her masters degree. She began her army career as an active duty nurse.

Life was good for a while, until Emily went through a period of deep depression. She began questioning her values and beliefs. As a result of therapy, Emily began to reclaim her inner voice, discover who she was and what she wanted to do. She dissolved her marriage, went on to raise 3 young daughters as a single mom - all on her own. She persevered. That’s what strong, independent southern women do.

At the age of 57, Emily found herself exhausted and ready for a change, but to what? What would she do? How would she do it? She had a comfortable, stable life. She had a secure government job. Life was good, right?

Something wasn’t working. Emily’s work and life weren’t feeding her soul. She wanted more, but again what? She began reading books, attending workshops, working on where and why she was stuck. She needed clarity and guidance. Emily was seeking a coach.

“I remember meeting you, you wonderful Rebel Belle in Naples, FL at one of our training sessions with Dr. Carol McCall. You impressed me by talking about how nervous and scared you were. I was shocked. You looked calm, like you had it all together. You taught me I could stand up like you, acknowledge what was so, rather than flogging myself for not measuring up.

I wanted what you had that allowed you to openly and boldly acknowledge and express your feelings. I was attracted to your authenticity. I realize now I was being drawn to the very things in you that were in me, I just wasn’t able to recognize it... yet.

Our coaching together changed that immediately. You brilliantly shared my soul inventory and taught me the ease of using it to make choices and decisions with clarity and confidence. It gave me a new belief in myself and my power hiding inside. Not seeing myself as powerful or having anything important to say, you taught me that it IS okay to “toot my horn,” and boldly I might add.

More importantly you gave me tools I use everyday to disprove that little voice in my head that wants me to stay stuck and play small. You encouraged me to acknowledge what I’ve accomplished and celebrate what I’ve achieved.

After a few months of coaching, I made an empowering decision. I left my comfortable, stable life and secure government income. I retired early. Inspired to re-discover me and re-design my life, today I’m living the life of my dreams. I have the freedom to navigate my day any way I desire. I visit my family whenever I please and have amazing relationships with my grandchildren. I began taking acting lessons, my hearts passion and desire and still love pondering what I will do with the rest of my life. I love being me!

And that’s not all. With your wonderful enthusiasm and joy for life you extended an invitation I couldn’t refuse – TO FLY ON THE TRAPEZE.

So... for my 60th birthday, I used the tools you gave me, squashed that little voice in my head that told me I was too old, my body couldn’t handle it, I was too afraid, that I’d never accomplish it and gave myself a gift. I flew through the air with the greatest of ease.

I climbed the 24-foot tower, stood on the platform and jumped. It was an exhilarating experience swinging back and forth. The awe and wonderment of feeling that fear, jumping into the unknown, and trusting myself to fly with ease. It was pure freedom.

Thank you, Tuck, for your passion, enthusiasm for life and inspiration, for coaching and guiding me to see what I already knew to be true.

I am a phenomenal woman.
