Reality is Merely an Illusion

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.” – Albert Einstein

Are we going to have this “you create your own reality” conversation again? Why, of course we are! It’s one of my favorites. Are you ready to engage? Let’s get goin’….…

Okay, so who do you think creates your reality and world? Why you do of course. You create your reality. You literally create it through your individual perceptions. You create it by the thoughts you hold, the pictures you create in your mind about those thoughts, and the feelings you have in response to those thoughts and pictures. Yes?!?

TRY THIS EXERCISE:

Close your eyes.
Now think of something sad. Stay with that for a moment.
Next think of a time when you were mad or angry. Give that a moment.
Now, think of something that makes you feel good and happy. Okay, I know you want to stay here, but we must move on with the exercise.

So, were you able to create those feelings? How’d you do it? Here’s what I did. To create a feeling of sadness, I remembered my mom’s dying. As I captured that memory, I held pictures in my mind of my mom being here and pictures of her funeral. And, I created a feeling of sadness.

I did the same for anger and happiness. I simply had different thoughts and different pictures. How ‘bout you? Is that how you did the exercise?

HERE'S WHAT IT MEANS. Whether your reality is one of sadness, anger, happiness or love, you’re the creator of it. You hold thoughts and images in your mind which elicit these emotional responses. These thoughts, images and emotions create your feelings and ultimately the experience of your reality.

So…if you don’t like your reality, change it! It’s just an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
